This paper written is based on the findings from a study conducted among the Social Science students of Advanced Level undertaking the English Language courses as Elective or compulsory and their mode of learning is Bengali other than few of these English courses. I have tried to explore some of the difficulties while teaching these students. Two groups of students were selected for experimental study and teaching was given following traditional approaches like CLT. Data were collected through classroom observation and questionnaires. Though the results found have some limitations, this paper aims at suggesting for the probable solutions to the problems and finally it opens a new window to face the learners with this type of challenging situation by adopting some of the innovative methods using the Humanistic approach of learning in English Language Teaching and Education.

This paper reports on an action research on intervention through volunteer tutors for struggling readers of English at the early level in Bangladesh. The proposition of the action research is that volunteer tutor support to assist the struggling learners who are slow in reading compared to other students in a class can help overcome their challenge. A sample of students is taken from one of the better-known English medium schools in Dhaka for a trial with volunteer tutors. The trial shows that if volunteer tutoring could be implemented at an early level, the reading level of students, who struggle to read and comprehend in a second language other than their mother tongue, can be motivated and helped to overcome their problems.

Teaching is a challenging profession and in pedagogy, the educators very often face difficulties dealing with the problems of the learners. The teachers are facing challenges to face the situations. Then they usually address their own solutions to overcome the situations. But to do it successfully one can implement the Needs-based Analysis that will focus on the specific learning strategy and help the educators overcome the difficulties in a learning environment. A Needs Analysis (NA) refers to a family of procedures for gathering information about learners and about communicative tasks for use in syllabus design in an academic context (Ronald V. White 1998). As the learner's priority is given the goal of achieving communicative competence is served authentically by adopting a NA. This paper aims at the certain points important to construct a NA for the learners of the Advanced level, usually targeted at the university level students of Bangladesh. First, it will show the basic needs the tertiary learners of Bangladesh face in acquiring the second language and then it emphasizes on the findings and finally it shows how to implement some of the probable steps in a teaching-learning context. It also focuses on the limitations while preparing a NA. The samples are taken from the students of Honors and Masters, of different semesters studying at IER (Institute of Education and Research) and one of the private universities
